Synvisc Injections for painful joints

Viscosupplementation is the name given to injection of artificial synovial fluid into the joints. Synovial fluid is the oily liquid that allows joints to move with lubrication and without pain.

There are several different viscosupplement injections but one of the commonest involves the use of Synvisc injections for painful joints.

These injections are performed three times at roughly one week intervals until improvement occurs. They are effective for arthritis of the knees but are now also used in the shoulder joint or sometimes in the hip.
